Some of the world’s richest coal deposits are located at Moatize in the Tete Province of Mozambique. Vale has held the concession since 2004 to explore coal deposits in this region for the next 25 years. Aurecon was engaged to deliver the infrastructure for the first phase of the mine. The Governments of the Republic of Mozambique, the Republic of South Africa and the Kingdom of Swaziland have been collaborating in terms of the management and joint development of the shared Maputo River Basin.
